Introduction
The Association of Buddhists of the Environment (ABE), funded by UNDP, Global Environment Fund, Small Grants Programme, has implemented the Environmental Education through Pagodas Project which promotes the special role of monks in guiding local populations in understanding and protecting natural resources, as well as improving the environment. The overall objective of the project is to support and strengthen the role of pagodas/Buddhist monks in the areas of environmental conservation and education at the local community level, with particular focus on Buddhist monks/pagodas in natural resources conservation in Kampong Leng district of Kampong Chhnang province.

ImageABE has supported the pagodas in its target areas in the planning of the activities, and in providing technical assistance to conduct the environmental activities for both in pagodas and the communities. ABE knows from its experience and lesson learnt from previous project that pagodas are important meeting and learning places for villagers living around.

On 24th-25th April 2006, The Association of Buddhists for the Environment (ABE) organized a training on “Community Forestry Concept and Video-documentary on Community Forestry, Buddhism and Cambodian Heritage”, sponsored by USAID through Community Forestry International (CFI). There are totally 24 monk participants. All of them are ABE monks’ provincial representative and board members.
