ImageWhen speaking about the Kangrey mountain, most of Cambodian people understand that it is the historical mountain teller’s. Now, one of the remarkable features in the mountain area is the role the Buddhist monks play in maintaining and protecting natural resources, especially forest resources around this mountain. These were done by facilitating of the Association of Buddhists for the Environment (ABE) funded by EC UNDP SGP PTF.

Radio Live Show Programme on FM 102 MHz

Image On Friday 12th, January 2007 Venerable Hiek Sopheap, Executive Director of the Association of Buddhists for the Environment (ABE) was invited to join Radio talk show program on village’s voice and environment program at frequencies Radio FM 102 FM 102 MHz, which focus on the role of monks in natural resources conservation, organised by Mlup Baitong.

Tree ordination Ceremony at Bokor National Park in Anglong Thom community

ImageWalking to forest, monks, villagers, and school children participated the celebration of “The Tree Ordination Ceremony” at Anlong Thom community, which it is a part of Bokor   National Park. The Association of Buddhists for the Environment (ABE) has started Environmental Education through Pagodas Project around Bokor area

ImageOn 07-08 November, 2006 Sangha Raja Bour Kry the Supreme Patriarch of Kingdom of Cambodia and Venerable Hiek Sopheap the executive director of the Association of Buddhist for the Environment went to join the Religion, the Environment and Development conference organized by Government of Norway,  ARC, UNDP and  World Bank at the Soria Moria Hotell og Konferansesenter, Oslo, Norway.

“Environmental Education through Pagodas surrounding Bokor Area”: 6 Months Accomplishment

ImageEnvironmental Education through Pagodas surrounding Bokor Area is a project which is sponsored by USAID through WildAid. The project aims to works with the Buddhists monks and pagodas surrounding Bokor area. Monks will be selected and have their capacities strengthened to become key-trainers; so that they will play a vital role in spreading environmental knowledge and awareness to the local villagers surrounding the pagodas.

Exposure Visit to Mlup Baitong’s Target Pagodas in Kampong Spue 3rd-5th May 2006

ImageOn 3rd-5th May 2006, the Association of Buddhists for the Environment (ABE) organized an exposure visit to Mlup Baitong’s target pagodas in Kampong Speu province. 14 monks from Kampong Chhnang province were invited to join this program. This exposure visit is sponsored by SEARCA, EU, and UNDP, and coordinated by Mlup Baitong’s Buddhism and Environmental Project.

On 24th-25th April 2006, The Association of Buddhists for the Environment (ABE) organized a training on “Community Forestry Concept and Video-documentary on Community Forestry, Buddhism and Cambodian Heritage”, sponsored by USAID through Community Forestry International (CFI). There are totally 24 monk participants. All of them are ABE monks’ provincial representative and board members.
